What helps us respond quickly

The building — address, use, number of storeys, whether it is new construction or existing.
The stage — design, construction, closeout, or an occupied building.
Which service you think you need, or the problem you are trying to solve if you are not sure.
Who else is involved — owner, consultant, general contractor, firestop installer, authority.
For construction projects: the firestop installer's name, so PFS can screen for conflicts before anything else.

One thing we ask before every proposal

PFS screens each inquiry for conflicts of interest first. If PFS has advised on a building, or the work would have us verify our own advice, we will say so and decline the inspection — and suggest who to call instead.

Complaints and appeals

If something PFS did was wrong, we want to hear it — and here is what happens next.

Anyone — a client, a contractor, an authority or a member of the public — may complain about PFS's work or conduct, and any party to an inspection may appeal a finding or a decision. Write to corey@passivefiresolutions.ca or call 403-835-6649; a complaint made by phone or on site is written down the same day.

Every complaint and appeal is recorded on receipt and acknowledged in writing within two working days — the same working day when it comes from an authority having jurisdiction.
PFS first confirms that the matter concerns its inspection activities, then gathers the information needed to decide whether it is substantiated.
A complaint about, or an appeal against, a technical finding is investigated by a person who was not involved in the inspection — PFS's external technical reviewer, or an independent firestop professional named for the purpose — and the decision is made or approved by someone not involved in the matter.
The complainant or appellant receives a written response setting out what was investigated, what was found and what has been done, within five working days of the decision, and is told how to appeal it and to whom.
Where a recorded finding is shown to be wrong, the record is corrected as a new traceable record, the affected report is amended and reissued, and the Authorizing Authority is notified.
No one is disadvantaged for complaining or appealing: terms, service and priority do not change.
